§ Application · Finishing

    Spray booth filtration.

Intake filtration is the difference between a clean finish and one full of inclusions. Bulk sheet or cut panels to your booth's frame dimensions.

    § 01 · Two stages

    Intake and extract.

A booth filters in two places, and foam is a better answer at one of them than the other.

Intake. Every particle that gets through lands in wet paint and becomes an inclusion somebody has to flat back and repair. This is where foam is clearly the right medium — high dirt capacity, low restriction, washable on a schedule. Most of the value on this page is here.

Extract. Catching overspray before it reaches the fan and ducting. Foam works, but be realistic about service life: once paint has cured through the lattice, the open structure is gone and no amount of cleaning brings it back. Extract media is a replacement item, not a washable one.

    § 02 · Grade

    Do not upset the balance.

Booth airflow is a designed system, not just a fan. The pressure balance between supply and extract is what keeps the booth slightly positive and stops dirty air being drawn in from the surrounding workshop — which is the very thing the filtration exists to prevent.

So an over-restrictive intake filter does not merely reduce airflow, it can invert the balance and make the booth dirtier than a coarser filter would. 30 to 45 PPI is the usual range: enough to stop what would land in paint, not enough to fight the design.

    § 03 · Supply

    Consumable volumes.

Booth filtration is bought as a consumable, and it should be priced that way. Two forms:

    • Bulk sheet stock — for booths taking a continuous roll or where maintenance cuts panels in-house. See foam sheets.
    • Cut panelsdie-cut to your booth's frame dimensions, ready to drop in.

Send the panel size, grade and your annual usage rather than a single order quantity — a rate set against realistic yearly volume is usually materially better, and repeat supply can be scheduled against it. See how foam is quoted.

    § 04 · Questions

    Common questions.

Where does foam fit in a spray booth?

Two places, doing different jobs. On the intake it keeps dust out of the air passing over wet paint, which is the difference between a clean finish and one full of inclusions. On the extract it catches overspray before it reaches the fan and ducting. The intake side is where foam is most clearly the right medium; extract duty is harder on the material.

Which grade for booth intake filtration?

Usually 30 to 45 PPI. The requirement is stopping the particles that would land in wet paint while keeping the booth's airflow balance intact — and booth airflow is a designed system, so a filter that restricts more than the design allows will upset the pressure balance and can pull dirty air in from elsewhere.

How often do booth filters need changing?

Intake filters wash and refit on a schedule set by how dusty the surrounding space is. Extract filters loaded with cured overspray are generally a replacement item rather than a washable one — once paint has cured through the lattice, the open structure is gone and no amount of cleaning brings it back.

Do you supply booth filters in bulk?

Yes, as bulk sheet stock for booths that take a continuous roll or where maintenance cuts panels in-house, and as finished die-cut panels to your booth's frame dimensions. Send the panel size and grade, and tell us the annual usage — this is consumable-volume buying and it should be priced accordingly.
